The week so far has been rather dominated by canvassing for votes. I’m not sure if I’ve yet recorded the fact here, but I’m intending to be the next VP Education and Representation of the Reading University Students Union. Thankfully, I’m uncontested in that. But if my job is going to consist in large part of encouraging students to encouraging students to make use of their rights to representation, I think it worthwhile to run a campaign. Albeit a fairly relaxed one which takes one day off during the voting. It’s been a good experience though, stopping and talking to a lot of students and hearing a wider range of opinions about these elections than is normally voiced. Next year, I hope not to find that anyone I talk to is oblivious of the elections.

Pete Ward’s talk yesterday was excellent. The book has been a good read so far (a few pages left to read), mostly providing a bit more language for the way my experience of church has been over the last couple of years. Moving on from the over-used “the church is the people” to “the church is the relationships” seems a useful change, though I do have some questions about where we place the emphasis there as, while the relationships have particular identities, they can’t exist devoid of people to relate. Still much to think about.

A whole lot more positive than Bush’s hopelessly idealistic nonsense last night. Thank goodness for the rebel MPs last night. Now there’s a source of hope and sign of democracy. (let’s hope it’s stronger next time)

To leave on a positive note: Gary has put up a fairly rare Eden Burning demo for download. They were my most-listened-to band for quite a while and new tracks are still a welcome gift.
